MATH AND SCIENCE CLUB ACTIVITY

WELCOME DEAR MATH AND SCIENCE CLUB MEMBERS
As you know, today, 22nd December is the Birthday of Srinivasa Ramanujan (Dec. 22, 1887 --April 26, 1920)
Srinivasa Ramanujan is the best known Indian  Mathematician who with almost no formal  training in Mathematics, made extraordinary  contributions to number theory, infinite series,  continued fractions and mathematical analysis.
During his short lifespan of only 33 years,  Ramanujan independently compiled nearly  4000 results (mostly equations and identities).
He was born on 22nd December 1887 in Erode, Tamil Nadu. In December 2011, the Government of India declared that Ramanujan’s birthday (22nd December) should be celebrated every year as National Mathematics Day and the year 2012 was declared as the National Mathematics Year.
This year our club has decided to conduct the following activities which can be submitted on the reopening day (02.01.2014).
Students can participate in more than one activity
Ø Prepare a report on
o   Importance of Mathematics in day to day activities
o   Contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan in Mathematics
o   Life events of Srinivasa Ramanujan
Ø Make a list of prime numbers between 1000 and 5,000
Ø Draw a circle of any radius. Measure the circumference using thread and ruler. Find its diameter. Calculate the ratio between circumference and diameter. Present everything in a A4 paper including the pictures
Ø Make a Poster on the application of mathematics in Science and  Technology, Fine arts, performing arts, Social Sciences or in other subjects
