Today on World Teachers Day, we pay tribute to all the teachers for their critical contribution to shaping the lives of children in the schools of Maldives. We recognize, with appreciation the dedication, commitment and diligence of teachers in contributing to all round development of children.
This year, under the theme “Recovery begins with Teachers” we acknowledge all the teachers who were directly or indirectly affected by a major crisis, and risked their lives to ensure quality education is provided to all children. This year we recognize the role teachers play in the social, economic and intellectual re-building of a nation affected by a crisis.
While the theme focuses on crisis situation, it can be equally well applied to children in distress under any circumstance. Hence, I take this opportunity emphasize the importance of a smile, a kind word or gesture and encourage teachers to continue to treat children with empathy.
